Roman Holiday

When you have just a few days in Rome, you cram in trips to as many impressive landmarks and ruins as you can. And that's what we did.

We walked the ruins of The Forum, still being excavated to this day.

We were approaching our capacity and tolerance for historic landmarks, so we walked along the Tiber to Trastevere, where we had a drink, a giant calzone, and enjoyed some brilliant buskers.

Those are birds against the sky, perhaps thousands of them, flying up and down the river. We watched them for several minutes before continuing on.

Anyone familiar with the instrument the fellow sitting down is playing? Here's a video:

Before we knew it, our time in Rome had come to a close. The next morning, we were off to the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence.

  1. I imagine one could make up just about any word ending in "-ichord" and it would pass for the name of such a contraption.

And, given what I just noticed at the base of it, I venture that it may be a skateboardichord.

    I could be wrong.

Really, it just looks like he got sick of all the keys his piano had, so he tore it apart and started pounding on the strings with mallets.

Also, I can't help but be concerned about whichever of those fellows it is that plans to skateboard home on those dangerous-looking cobblestone streets. It seems like a risky choice.
